Working with your camera-person is a very intimate, creative process. You share hours in cars, on red carpets, studio stages, hotel lobby's and parties(!). And finally the material has to be edited and uploaded to wherever it needs to go. Working with Marieke makes life so much easier:she has a professional attitude, is a great camera-woman, a story-teller in editing and a wonderful person to work with. And I know George, Brad, Steven and even Nicole feel the same!

The camera is over there, that is the camera. It can’t be on the side, behind me, over there on the edge of my frame, out there ...Where did she go? Hm. She is good… The next day Ihad forgotten all about her. Yes, I did see her at lunch but then we were just joking around. What does she do? Nice lady, for sure! She can be charming, but I do want to feel safe on set! At times I would see her. Oh right, the making-of, that is what she is doing. And then I thought, well let's first actually make something before making the making-of. But she did it anyway. One day she asked if she could show me some of the footage she had cut. ‘Here are some of the shots.’ Well, sure... go ahead, show me. And then you get to see what you should see in a making-of. People, working together, the jazz, trying to make a great feature film. Fun, craftsmanship, discipline, it all comes together and it is all caught on tape. How did she do it? I have no idea. Don't ask me, I wasn’t even aware of it. But here is the evidence. She can do it! Better than anyone else and I felt safe.
I met Marieke when I worked on the feature film All Stars 2 Old Stars. She shot the making-of. It always feels strange for an actor when someone is on set and isn’t part of the actual process. As an actor, shooting scenes is very intimate and you have to be able to feel safe, especially with all the crew members, etc. That was something that I had to get used to at first, you don't know each other. Can you really be yourself? Is it safe? That kind of thing. You feel watched and don't know where the footage will end up being used. Anyway, if you let go of those feelings and fears, you become aware that she makes you feel very safe and that she is present in a way that doesn’t interfere with anything. And you miss her when she is not there. Marieke is a true professional who knows her craft and she knows how to capture things without interfering with the shoot. She is part of the crew, someone you can rely on!

When a woman is great at horseback riding and used to be a fashion model, you might say that a person like that does not need to hide behind a camera. And if she does, is she capable? Because when you are that beautiful you can’t possibly have brains as well, especially if you fell off a horse multiple times. Anyway, as you might understand, I initially started working with Ms. Niestadt, the director, with some reservations. But within minutes I had to let go of all my preconceived ideas. She quietly walks on set with the camera, invisible, not bothering anyone in the scene. Modest, but with empathy she captures what is happening. Then she will only ask the right questions, to the point and without false sentiment. That is impressive. It almost makes you wonder how good she would have been if she wouldn’t have been beautiful and had never fallen off a horse.

Brenninkmeijer. I was one of the last to arrive at the ppm and did not notice that Marieke had already been shooting for some time. She stayed quietly in the "background", as a professional would. You instantly feel safe around her and you can be who you are. We spent 20 days on set together, she shot beautiful footage, which, in this case she will edit into a making-of. I got to see a sneak preview and it makes me so happy. Humor, drama and the right camera angles together create a wonderful piece of work. You can clearly see that she has
become part of our team. She is always welcome on "my" set.
